About us

About us | reconnect to recover

We help you rebuild the connection with yourself and those around you. Addiction often takes that away first. We look beyond use to your underlying mental health.

At Connection Mental Healthcare, we provide private, inpatient treatment for addiction and mental health challenges in South Africa. We work with people who are often carrying more than one struggle at the same time: addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic stress or other underlying difficulties that have become intertwined over time.

For us, treatment is not about addressing one symptom in isolation. It is about understanding the full picture. Addiction rarely develops on its own and mental health challenges often do not exist separately from the way someone copes. That is why we focus on both together. This integrated approach is at the heart of what we do.

Our team outside the clinic in South Africa.
Treating addiction and what sits beneath it together – not in turn – is the foundation of our work.

We offer structured, inpatient treatment when you need more than a short break or surface-level help. Our care is designed for you if you want to step out of the environment in which your patterns have developed and fully focus on your recovery.

This includes treatment for:

Our work begins by understanding your situation in depth. We look at what is happening now, how it developed, what may be maintaining it and what needs to change for recovery to become sustainable.

Call us

In our experience, real progress often becomes possible when treatment goes beyond the visible behaviour. Sometimes, addictive behaviour or problematic use of substances can be a symptom of an underlying cause.

If you drink to cope with anxiety, use drugs to silence trauma or rely on certain behaviour to manage stress, then the addiction is only one part of your story. Treating the addiction without addressing the anxiety, trauma or stress underneath it often leads to temporary results. The same is true the other way around: if you work on your mental health but the addiction stays in place, your substance use can keep fuelling the very anxiety, low mood or instability you are trying to recover from.

That is why we specialise in dual diagnosis. We treat addiction and mental health together, within one coherent treatment process. This creates more clarity, more depth and often a stronger basis for long-term recovery.

We believe that for many people, environment plays a major role in keeping patterns in place. Stress, availability, habits, social influences, responsibilities and unprocessed emotions can all reinforce the cycle someone is trying to break.

Our inpatient setting creates the distance needed to interrupt that cycle.

Staying with us means you are temporarily removed from your usual surroundings. That distance often brings a different kind of perspective. It allows space to slow down, to stabilise and to better understand what has really been going on beneath the surface.

Inpatient treatment also offers consistency. Recovery is not fitted around the edges of everyday life, but becomes the main focus. This creates room for deeper therapeutic work, more structure and greater continuity.

On the CMH about us page, clients take part in a guided group therapy discussion about mental health, addiction and recovery.
Stepping out of familiar surroundings makes room for stabilisation and deeper therapeutic work.

Our clinic is based in South Africa for a reason. For many of our clients, being abroad is not just a practical choice, but a meaningful part of the treatment itself.

Physical distance from home often helps create mental distance as well. It can reduce exposure to familiar triggers, routines and expectations and make it easier to fully engage in the process of recovery.

South Africa also offers a calm and restorative environment. The space, climate and natural surroundings can support the sense of stepping out of survival mode and into a setting that is more conducive to reflection, treatment and change.

At the same time, we combine this environment with serious, professional care. Our clinic is not designed as a retreat from reality, but as a place where people can begin to face it differently.

Call us

As a private clinic, we work with a personalised and focused approach. Each person arrives with a different history, different patterns, different mental health factors and different needs. That is why we shape treatment around you as an individual.

This means we look closely at:

  • the nature of your addiction or mental health challenge
  • underlying causes and contributing factors
  • your previous treatment experiences
  • your personal coping patterns
  • your goals and what recovery would look like in your life

Private care also allows for more discretion, more individual attention and a quieter treatment environment. For many people, this helps create the safety and focus needed to engage honestly with the process.

We do not see recovery as simply stopping something. Recovery is about understanding what has become necessary and gradually building a life in which that necessity changes.

That often means learning new ways to cope with stress, anxiety, trauma, low mood or emotional pressure. It means recognising patterns that may have become automatic. It also means rebuilding structure, trust and stability, step by step.

Recovery is rarely linear. It is a process of insight, adjustment and growth. Our role is to strengthen that process with care, structure and expertise.

Integrated treatment for addiction and mental health

We specialise in situations where addiction and mental health influence each other. By treating them together, we can work in a way that is more complete and often more effective.

Distance from triggers and daily pressures

Being in South Africa and staying in our inpatient setting helps create separation from the environment in which unhealthy patterns have developed.

Privacy and discretion

As a private rehab centre, we offer a calm and confidential setting where you can focus on treatment without unnecessary exposure or external pressure.

Personalised care

We do not use a standard formula. Our treatment is shaped around each individual client, not the other way around.

English-speaking staff

We provide care in English, making treatment accessible and clear for international clients.

Immediate access

Because we are a private rehabilitation centre, we can often offer treatment without the long waiting times that can exist elsewhere. That matters, because taking the first step and asking for help is rarely easy. Once you have made that decision, the sooner you can start, the better.

Call us

We work with people who may feel stuck, overwhelmed or exhausted by patterns they can no longer manage alone. Some come to us because addiction has taken over more space than they ever expected. Others come because anxiety, trauma, depression or burnout have gradually affected how they cope and function. Often, it is both.

Reach out for questions or personal advice

We are also here for you if you are still unsure. You do not need to arrive with a perfect explanation of what is wrong or a clear decision about treatment. Sometimes a personal conversation, an honest answer to your questions or simply the chance to share your story is already a meaningful step. If that helps you move forward, even before you are ready for treatment, our team is here to listen.

At Connection Mental Healthcare, we aim to offer more than temporary relief. We provide a place where people can begin to understand themselves differently, interrupt destructive patterns and work towards recovery in a way that is serious, personal and sustainable.

We do this through private, inpatient care in South Africa, grounded in clinical depth, dual diagnosis expertise and a genuine focus on the individual behind the symptoms.

Frequently asked questions about us

Who is behind Connection Mental Healthcare?

Connection Mental Healthcare is a private inpatient clinic in South Africa specialising in addiction and mental health treatment. We focus particularly on dual diagnosis, where addiction and mental health challenges occur together. Our approach combines structured inpatient care with personalised treatment that looks beyond symptoms and addresses the underlying causes contributing to someone’s struggles.

Why is inpatient treatment important for addiction recovery?

Inpatient treatment creates distance from the environment, stress and triggers that may be reinforcing addictive patterns. It allows recovery to become the main focus without the distractions and pressures of everyday life. A structured setting also provides consistency, therapeutic support and more space to address underlying mental health challenges alongside addiction.

Why do people choose rehab in South Africa?

Many people choose rehab in South Africa because physical distance from home can help create mental distance as well. Being away from familiar routines, triggers and pressures often makes it easier to focus fully on recovery. South Africa also offers a calm environment combined with professional inpatient treatment and structured mental healthcare.

Can addiction and mental health problems be treated together?

Yes, addiction and mental health problems are often treated together in dual diagnosis care. Many people experience conditions such as anxiety, trauma, depression or burnout alongside addiction. Treating both at the same time can help create a more stable foundation for long-term recovery and reduce the risk of relapse.

What can I expect during inpatient rehab treatment?

Inpatient rehab treatment usually includes structure, therapy, psychological support and time away from daily pressures. Treatment often focuses on understanding the underlying causes of addiction, learning healthier coping strategies and improving emotional stability. The exact treatment approach depends on the individual situation and mental health needs.
